It’s time we stand up for our Outback

In WA’s Outback, people and nature need each other to thrive. But the natural and social fabric of many parts of the Outback is unravelling.

Feral cats and other introduced animals are decimating our unique wildlife. And outdated laws mean all Outback Stations must run cattle or sheep - these unfair laws drive overgrazing and erosion of our fragile soils, while inhibiting Outback pioneers from turning the situation around.

Right now, the WA Government is deciding on historic reforms which could provide a brighter future for our Outback.

Let’s ensure the laws are changed so they reward people who manage their land well and encourage new enterprises and jobs that look after our Outback’s special places and unique wildlife.

Help tip the balance in favour of a brighter future. Add your name to the Petition For WA’s Outback.

Dear Premier Barnett,

Our Outback is an extraordinary and beautiful place which has helped shape our culture, our economy and who we are today as Western Australians.

However without decisive action to modernise laws and reform government approaches, we risk losing the remarkable people and amazing natural landscapes that make it so special.

This year we have an historic opportunity to turn this around and leave a deep and lasting legacy for the future generations of our great State.

We urge you to take this opportunity to create a modern Outback which:

  • encourages new enterprises and jobs that look after our Outback;
  • rewards those that manage their land well; and
  • protects our most special natural places.

Yours sincerely,

The undersigned people of Western Australia
