An additional 830,000 hectares have now been identified as additional properties under Plan for Our Parks, including the expansion of the iconic Karijini National Park and the Waldburg National Park, adjacent to Mount Augustus (Burringurrah).

It also includes the creation of two other proposed parks in the WA Outback including:

  • Meentheena Conservation Reserves in the Pilbara. This proposed park would protect the critically endangered night parrot, the endangered northern quoll, and vulnerable species' the ghost bat and bilby, and includes three stromatolite geoheritage sites.

  • Thundelarra Conservation Park in the Mid-West. This proposed park would protect the western spiny tailed skink and several birds such as the mallee fowl, the endangered Carnaby's black cockatoo and the peregrine falcon.
